Become A Safety Avenger!

Who are the Safety Avengers and what do they do?

The Safety Avengers are made out of kids just like you!  They are skiers and snowboarders who know the skiers responsibility code and how to be safe on the mountain.  They care about the safety of friends, family and everyone around them.

How do I become a Safety Avenger?
It's easy to become a Safety Avenger but it's a big responsibility!  On your next trip to Keystone stop by Ski Patrol Headquarters to meet Patrol Members and find out what it takes to join the Safety Avengers!

1. Watch the Safety Avengers video
2. Print out a safety coloring page and complete it with first name, hometown, and age
3. Come to Patrol HQ at Dercum Mtn. and turn in coloring page, answer a couple of questions about Dangerous Dan.

Once you're done:
One of our ski patrolers will make it official by placing  Safety Avenger sticker on your helmet.  Making you one of the newest Safety Avengers!

Do You Have Everything You Need?

In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, things can get pretty wild out here!  The Keystone Safety Avengers have pledged to always come prepared to ski or ride.  These things might include:

  • Non-cotton layers and extra socks
  • Extra layers to leave in the car
  • Water bottles (to be refilled at our water stations)
  • Snacks or lunch
  • Sunblock and chapstick
  • Helmet, goggles, gloves
  • Parents contact information

Where Will You Meet Your Parents

Cell Phones don’t always work in our neck of the woods, so be prepared with a physical place everyone in the party is familiar with. This can be a patrol hut, a certain lift or a landmark. Don’t forget to add a time to your meeting place. For example: Dangerous Dan and a few Safety Avengers always meet at 12pm at the top of the Gondola if they get separated.

Do You Know What To Look For If You Need Help

There are many people and things that can help you on the mountain if you need it.  Keystone employees often times carry radios to contact Patrol Headquarters and will have a better idea of where you are.  Look for Keystone jackets in Red, Yellow or Blue—we can help you!  If you do not see any employees around you look for red trail phones to contact ski patrol.  Emergency Services can also be reached at 970-496-4135.

Where is Ski Patrol?

Ski Patrol is located at the top of each of our three peaks.  You can distinguish these huts from other buildings by locating the red and white cross.  Our Patrol huts are always great places for you and your party to meet or warm up if you’re feeling cold.  We are staffed with essential medical equipment and rescue devices for lift evacuations, out-of-bounds searches  and snow safety to name a few.  Feel free to stop by anytime during normal operating hours .  We’d love to see you!
