EpicPromise: Environmental Details & Stats
Keystone Resort is entrusted with the stewardship of lands in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. We support, promote, and engage in resource conservation, renewable energy use, recycling, composting, and other forms of waste reduction, wildlife habitat preservation, and environmental education.
Energy and Water Use
Keystone has upgraded our snow making system to increase efficiency. Keystone has an extremely efficient laundry plant, and has retrofitted all rooms in the Keystone Lodge with water-saving bathroom fixtures and low 'e' windows, which will increase energy savings and efficiencies.
National Forest and Pine Beetle
Vail Resorts (Keystone's parent company) has partnered with the National Forest Service to raise money for on-the-ground conservation projects in the national forests where Vail Resorts operations are located.
Thousands of brown lodgepole pine trees around Keystone and Summit County have been killed as a result of an infestation by mountain pine beetles. Keystone is working to protect healthy trees and reduce fire danger around the resort as a result of this epidemic.
Keystone Resort recycles over 1,000 tons of material per year and reuses products where possible. The Environmental department has increased the collection of compostable materials to eight locations, including on-mountain dining facilities. 72 tons were collected in the past year.
Education and Awards
Keystone’s Mountain and Valley Naturalist Tours give guests the opportunity to take a self-guided tour on the mountain or in the valley to learn the history of Keystone and about the surrounding area.
