Guided Cat Skiing at Keystone: What to Expect
Gearing Up & Getting Ready
Keystone Resort cat skiing guests start their day in the Basket Check/Keystone Sports ski tuning shop located adjacent to Buffalo Court Yard in River Run Village. Upon arriving at the appropriate meeting location, Keystone’s expert cat skiing guides make their introductions and then promptly prepare guests for the day to come. This includes dialing in any Salomon powder ski requests (any guest partaking in the cat ski activity have the option to demo Salomon powder skis for the day free of charge), running through the days schedule as well as divvying out the appropriate gear such as beacons of which every guest is required to wear. The guides also take guests through a tutorial on how to use your beacon as well as the appropriate way to wear it.
After all members of the cat ski party are appropriately geared up and ready to go, the team will escort you out to the gondola headed to the top of Dercum Peak. Once on top of Dercum Peak the cat will be waiting and ready to go for the day. Climbing aboard guests will notice the cat is stocked with bottled water free for guests to consume. We average between 5,000 and 6,000 vertical feet per day. It depends on the speed of the group. Our lap average is 8 laps a day depending on the movement of the group.
Into The Bowls
After the cat ride to the top, Keystone’s expert guides start the day off with a warm-up run so guests are able to get their legs under them and are ready for an amazing day in the back bowls of Keystone. The resort’s cat ski operation takes skiers and riders into three bowls—Independence, Ericson and Bergman Bowls for an incredibly memorable day on the mountain.
A Gourmet Lunch
After taking turns all morning through untracked snow and enjoying the gorgeous Rocky Mountain vistas, the cat will stop for lunch at the backcountry yurt located in the Independence Bowl. Lunch consists of a gourmet, catered lunch including homemade soups, deli sandwiches and fresh made mini cakes for dessert. Guests can also sip on tea or coffee while enjoying the cozy ambiance of the yurt.
A Few More Turns
Once lunch is complete, your guides will direct you back to the cat which will be ready to go for more amazing afternoon powder turns. The tour will drop off cat skiers and riders at 3pm at the top of Dercum where guests can ski down to the bottom of the mountain. Powder Ski rentals will need to be returned to Keystone Sports.
Guided cat skiing with Keystone’s Adventure Tours is truly a remarkable experience that will leave you smiling after a day of unforgettable skiing and riding with friends and family.
